Open Water Scuba Diver (Autonomous-ISO Level 2) – Technical

NAUI Open Water Scuba Diver (Autonomous-ISO Level 2) – Technical Diving emphasis

This open-water SCUBA certification class will help prepare new divers who wish to pursue a technical diving path by utilizing diving methods and a gear configuration consistent with technical diving goals. 


Students will be taught basic fundamental diving skills that will serve as the foundation for a future path toward technical diving.  Although this course is not at technical diving certification it does utilize proven methods and equipment configurations that are currently used in technical diving.


Successful completion of this SCUBA Diver course will provide the student with exceptional buoyancy control, trim and propulsion techniques, as well as the knowledge needed to be a safe and competent diver. 


In addition to an emphasis on Technical Diving methodologies, this class will also include certification in the use of Nitrox a as breathing gas. 


What is Technical Diving?

Class specifics

  • Cost: $900 USD
  • Instructor to student ratio: 1:3 
  • Class duration:  7 days (lectures and dives)
  • Days 1 - 6: Lectures and skills dives (minimum 10 skills dives)
  • Day 7: Plan and execute 2 experience dives
  • Maximum depth: 60 feet/18 meters


Required personal gear

  • Primary mask (low volume)
  • Backup mask (low volume)
  • Rigid fins allowing proper finning styles (e.g. back-finning).  Examples:

                 ScubaPro Jet-Fins (dry-suit)

                 OMS Slipstream (wet-suit)

  • Snorkel
  • Exposure suit (with pockets preferred)


Required gear provided for use during class

  • BCD (Back-plate, continuous webbing, and wing BC) 
  • Weight system (integrated or belt) and (detachable or non-detachable)
  • Tanks
  • Primary regulator, long-hose (1.5-2m/5-7’)
  • Backup regulator on necklace around neck
  • Submersible Pressure Gauge (SPG)
  • Cutting device
  • Wet-notes
  • Depth gauge and bottom timer (wrist mount)
  • Compass (wrist mount)
  • Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) with finger spool
  • Primary light
  • Backup light
